Edmund Optics offers a wide selection of super black, light-absorbing components and materials from Acktar Advanced Coatings used to eliminate noise from specular reflection and stray light. Edmund Optics carries a wide variety of Acktar products including Light Absorbent Foil, Light Absorbent Panels, Blackened Pinholes and Air slits, and Hexa-Black C-Mount Extension Tubes. Acktar Light Absorbent Foil is used in applications where directly coating a surface, to reduce or eliminate surface reflectance, is not practical. Foil is available in Metal Velvet and Spectral Black. Each coating features exceptional absorbance properties for different wavelength ranges. These foils can be cut to size and applied to the inside of optical assemblies to trap specular reflection or applied to other surfaces to reduce stray light from diffuse illumination. Light Absorbing Sample Kits contain several coating options. Acktar super black, light-absorbing foil is available individually in several coatings’ types, sizes, and adhesive options. Metal Velvet for example, is a diffusive coating with superior performance of up to 99.9% absorbance at near normal angles of incidence, whereas Spectral Black is a semi-specular coating, making it more durable and easily cleaned. Acktar coatings are also available pre-mounted to panels. These panels can be easily integrated into optical systems using optical mounts or optional adhesive back panels. They are ideal for applications including Raman Spectroscopy, Endoscopy, and Laser Beam Dumps. Panels are available in Metal Velvet or Spectral Black coatings, as well as a third Hexablack option. Acktar Hexablack is light-trapping, structured material constructed of aluminum and arranged in tessellating hexagons, which are coated in a proprietary light absorbing coating. Acktar Blackened Pinholes and Air Slits feature stainless steel substrates coated on both sides, as well as on the edges, with Magic Black. This coating provides wide-band, low reflectance from the extreme ultraviolet to the short-wave infrared, near zero outgassing, and coating stability up to 380°C. Pinholes and air slits are both available mounted or unmounted and are excellent for spatial filtering and eliminating back reflections. Acktar Hexa-Black C-Mount Noise Reduction extension tubes feature the Acktar Hexa-Black structured material and are excellent in C-Mount machine vision or microscopy imaging systems where illumination is diffuse, causing light rays to scatter through an optical setup or assembly. Notice that the image through the tube for the Hexa Black Extension tube has less obscuring from specular reflection, and as a result, the image through the Hexa Black Extension tube has a higher contrast than the one through the regular anodized C-Mount Extension Tube.
